Dr. Nadine Darwiche is Associate Professor of Biology, graduated with Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the George Washington University in 1994. She was awarded from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda , Maryland a pre-doctoral intramural research fellowship: 1990-1994 National Cancer Institute and two postdoctoral fellowships (1994-1997) National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development. She joined AUB in October 1998 as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001. Her research interests are in the field of cancer chemoprevention and treatment; in particular in deciphering the role of retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) using skin cancer and leukemia/lymphoma models. Her team also identifies anti-tumor activities of Lebanese indigenous plant extracts and elucidate their mechanism of action.
Research Activities
“ My research focuses on cancer chemoprevention and treatment of Vitamin A derivatives (retinoids) and of compounds extracted from Lebanese indigenous plants. In particular, my research group focuses on deciphering the anti-tumor effects of retinoids and of crude and purified plant extracts using skin cancer and leukemia/lymphoma models. We also analyze drug-induced cell-cycle inhibitory and cell death signaling pathways at the cellular and molecular levels. ”
